Aspire Precinct Gets All Clear From VCAT

Permit approved without extra parking

Aspire Precinct Gets All Clear From VCAT

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has given the all-clear to develop the Aspire precinct in front of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo.

The development had been put in front of the tribunal because the City of Greater Bendigo had removed the requirement to construct an extra 40 spaces at the precinct on the corner of High and Short streets.

The case was approved without any extra car parking spaces despite residents saying the precinct will exacerbate the parking issue already present in the area.

VCAT did however include additional conditions relating to hours of operation, waste management and bus parking - work at the site on the corner of HIGH and SHORT st must begin with 2 years.

Work at the site will begin within two years and the precinct will include a theatre, library, learning centre and exhibition space.
