Brick catapults off back of truck

Lucky Escape for Family Travelling on the Warrego Highway QPS

A family were lucky to escape serious injury on the Warrego Highway yesterday after a brick catapulted off the back of a passing truck through the front window of their four-wheel-drive.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which occurred around 1.30pm approximately three kilometres outside of the Miles township.

QPS

A 48-year-old man was driving his Landcruiser eastbound along the Warrego Highway when a brick flew from the rear load of a truck which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The brick bounced off the road, crashed through the front passenger window of the four-wheel-drive and tore into the roof before exiting through the back windscreen, denting the trailer behind.

QPS

The missile narrowly missed a 42-year-old woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat and an 8-year-old boy who was in the rear of the vehicle.

They were transported to hospital for treatment to cuts from broken glass.

The brick struck with such force that it ripped a hole in the front bonnet and roof of the vehicle.

QPS

Anyone who may have been travelling in the area at this time with further information is being urged to come forward.

Police would also like to remind motorists of the importance of ensuring their trailer and truck loads are secured before driving, as this incident could have easily ended in tragedy.
