GV Health invite you to take part in the 'Make It Count' walk to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation in Shepparton. The event will be held on Sunday, August 5 and is supported by DonateLife.
The walk starts at Victoria Park Lake at 10am, finishing at KidsTown. There will be plenty of fun for the family including face painting, a jumping castle and a FREE BBQ to follow!
DonateLife Victoria Nurse Donation Specialist, Natasha Pearson, encourages locals to come along for a fun day with their family, where they can discuss their donation decision with their family and register on the spot.
She says while most people are supportive of donation, many haven’t taken the next step to register their decision.
“Almost 70% of Victorians support organ and tissue donation, yet only one in five have registered that decision on the Australian Organ Donor Register,” Natasha said.
One of the most important parts is, of course, registration.
“I have seen firsthand how much easier it is for families to make a decision when their loved one was registered.”
“It takes less than a minute and could one day save lives,” Natasha said.
There are around 1,400 Australians currently waiting for a transplant, and a further 11,000 people on dialysis who would benefit from a kidney transplant.
You can support DonateLife Week by:
