If you're gearing up for a big weekend sleep-in, it might be worth keeping this new study in mind, with researchers claiming that getting too much sleep can be just as bad for you as not getting enough.
The findings, published in the journal SLEEP by Western University's Body and Mind Institute, reported that the optimal amount of sleep is seven to eight hours.
This amount is the perfect number of ZZZs to catch for peak brain performance.
Of the 40,000 people who participated in the study, those with less than four hours of sleep performed worse than those who had slept well.
The same pattern was present for those who had over-slept, and interestingly this was found consistently for people of all ages who participated in the study.
