UPDATE: The M1 has re-opened southbound at Warnervale following this morning's fatal crash.
Traffic is flowing again, however there are still extensive delays for drivers coming from the Hunter.
EARLIER: A driver has been killed in a head on collision on the M1 at Warnervale.
It's understood a car was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes near the twin service stations, when it collided with another vehicle just after 4:30am.
A man died at the scene, while two others were taken to hospital.
The motorway is closed southbound, resulting in extensive delays for drivers coming from the Hunter.
Traffic is being diverted onto Sparks Rd, the Pacific Hwy and Wyong Road before rejoining the M1, however there are major delays along this route as well.
The RMS says it's unclear when the motorway will re-open, with crash investigators still at the scene.
Northbound traffic is unaffected.
