An eight-year-old girl has been indecently assaulted overnight, the attack taking place when a stranger entered through the child's bedroom window of a home in Sydney's east.
It is understood that the girl was asleep, and woke up to find the intruder in her bedroom.
He allegedly climbed from the window and onto her bed, before indecently assaulting her in the Kingsford home.
CCTV footage places the incident between 2.45am and 2.55am, with the man seen scrambling into the window.
The girl informed her mother of the incident, and police were called.
She was not physically harmed during the attack, and a police statement has been lodged.
"The family are obviously extremely distressed, and we are working closely with the family to ensure they are well supported,” Superintendent Karen McCarthy told reporters this morning.
“The welfare of our young victim and the family is of paramount importance.”
The man is described as being 170cm to 180cm tall with an Australian or English accent.
