Beauty lovers are being warned by police that their ‘bargain’ make-up may be contaminated with human faeces after a million dollar haul of fake cosmetics were taken in America.
Police raided 21 locations in Los Angeles on Thursday and found counterfeits of Urban Decay, NARS, MAC and Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner.
Police captain Marc Reina announced the result in Twitter, saying the make-up was found to ‘contain bacteria and human waste.”
A full investigation was launched after customers complained to the real brands that their products were causing bumps and rashes.
Further probing found that the products had been purchased in Santee Alley, in downtown LA, and undercover officers then bought products for testing.
Detective Rick Ishitani told ABC7: "They came back positive with a high level of bacteria and animal faeces.
"Those faeces will just basically somehow get mixed into the product they're manufacturing in their garage or in their bathroom - wherever they're manufacturing this stuff."
Detective Ishitani did note that the packaging on the products can be identical but warned "If you're getting something that's 50 percent off, 75 percent off - it tells you that it's bad."
The raids saw six people being arrested.
