Every single Australian tennis fan would have been leaping from their seats when proud Queenslander, John Millman, defeated Roger Federer at the U.S Open yesterday.

John is now the first Australian man to reach the quarter-finals of the U.S Open since Lleyton Hewitt qualified in 2006.

The Brisbaneite is currently ranked 55th in the world and won yesterdays match 3-6 7-5 7-6 7-6 and you're probably thinking that his parents would have been sitting on the edge of their seats the entire time, right?

Well, actually, whilst speaking to Heidi, Xavier and Ryan this morning, John's father, Ron Millman, explained that they're not actually the best at watching their son's games because they simply get too nervous!

"Both my wife and I are horrible at watching. I mean, we do it if we have to!

"If we're in a stadium we've really got to, but otherwise no. We prefer sending our girls [John's sisters] to watch him."

This doesn't mean that they're not interested in the games, of course.

Ron, who works as a P.E teacher, explained that he didn't watch his son play Roger Federer yesterday because he was too busy teaching and relied on the school's Deputy Principal for game updates.

Have a listen to the full conversation to hear the moment that Ron found out John had won his match and what strange things he's had to do whilst John has been travelling and playing big competitions:

John plays Novak Djokovic tomorrow at Arthur Ashe Stadium and we're sure that it's going to be another nail-biting match.
